Air filtration has been rapidly adapted over the 7 years. originally it was applied to boar studs, and now to sow farms as well as some research and finishing sites. UPDATE: SVC ANDROLOGY LAB You are probably aware of the FDA rule change regarding cenftiofur use in food animals. In a nut shell, usage is now restricted to what is on the label. You may not be aware that this also has an effect on your semen supplier. Many of the semen extenders have had ceftiofur added over the last 6-9 years. In some cases, ceftiofur is added by the manufacturer or supplied by the manufacturer. In other words, added at the boar stud. In Memorium: Richard Compart
The Swine Industry said goodbye to a good friend and stalwart supporter last month. Richard and Bonnie Compart co-founded "Comparts Boar Store", a large purebred hog operation that grew to include all of their sons as it still does today. One of the first swine breeders to do on-farm performance testing of their boars, Comparts later added on-farm production sales to their operation. Some of Richard's many accomplishments in the pig world included Pork All-American, NSIF Seedstock Producer of the Year and Minnesota Livestock Breeders Hall of Fame. He was very active in the Nicollet County Pork Producers and Tri-County Fair Board, and also served as President of the Minnesota Pork Producers and the United Duroc Swine Registry.
